Gallieni, Intermodal transit hub in Bagnolet, France
Gallieni is the eastern terminus of metro line 3, located in Bagnolet just outside the Paris ring road. The underground station has four tracks served by two island platforms and is accessible through two entrances, one facing the main road and one near a former bus station.
The station opened in 1971 when line 3 was extended eastward to reach Bagnolet. It takes its name from the nearby boulevard honoring Marshal Joseph Gallieni, who was posthumously awarded his rank after his death in 1916.
The station's name comes from Marshal Joseph Gallieni, who is also honored by the nearby avenue. Travelers passing through can still see the yellow seats and tiled walls that reflect the design style of the 1970s.
The station is deep underground and reached by stairs, though one entrance has an escalator for exiting. The main entrance faces the principal road and is clearly signposted, making it straightforward to find from street level.
Until July 2020, a large international bus station operated right next to the metro stop, connecting travelers to destinations beyond France. After it closed due to the operator's financial difficulties, plans have been discussed to link this station with a cable car serving the nearby neighborhood of La Noue.
