Salle Pleyel, Historic concert hall in the 8th arrondissement, Paris

The Salle Pleyel is a concert hall and listed historical monument in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, on the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. Its Art Deco facade features tall vertical windows and geometric shapes, while the main hall inside can seat around 2,000 people, with room for more thanks to a removable pit.

The Salle Pleyel opened in 1927 and was for a long time the only concert hall in Paris built specifically for large orchestral performances. The economic crisis of the 1930s led to the bankruptcy of the Pleyel company, after which a bank took over its management.

The Salle Pleyel takes its name from Ignace Pleyel, who founded a piano workshop in Paris in the early 19th century. Inside, the decor is simple and focused entirely on the stage, giving the space a no-frills feel that puts music at the center.

The venue sits in the 8th arrondissement, within walking distance of several metro stations and easy to find along a well-known street. Arriving a little early before an event is a good idea, as the surrounding neighborhood tends to get busy in the evenings.

Although known as a classical music venue, the hall has also welcomed jazz legends such as Louis Armstrong and Django Reinhardt on its stage. It even hosted the César film awards ceremony, showing just how broad its history of events really is.
