MadRing, Motorsport racing track in Barajas, Madrid, Spain
MadRing is a motorsport racing track in the Barajas district of Madrid, built around the IFEMA exhibition center. The circuit is just over 5 kilometers long, features 22 turns, and runs partly on public roads and partly on land shared between the IFEMA grounds and the neighboring Valdebebas area.
The idea of a Madrid street circuit was first proposed to Formula 1 in 2014, but the project took years of negotiation before becoming real. A contract was eventually signed to host the Spanish Grand Prix here through 2035, moving the race from Barcelona to Barajas starting in 2026.
La Monumental, a banked curve near the end of the circuit, has become the defining feature of the track and the one spectators talk about most. Its name reflects its scale, and it can be seen from several grandstand sections on the Valdebebas side of the circuit.
The circuit sits close to Barajas Airport and is reachable by metro, which makes getting there straightforward even during busy race weekends. Because the spectator areas are split across two sides of the circuit, it is worth planning ahead to make sure you are on the side you want.
Part of the Valdebebas side of the circuit passes over land that contains old bunkers from the Spanish Civil War. The track also includes a section that runs under an elevated highway, which gives the layout an element rarely found on street circuits.
