Linnéparken, Park in central Växjö, Sweden

Linnéparken is a park in the center of Växjö, next to the cathedral and bordering a lake. It is divided into three sections: a formal garden with flower beds near the church, an English-style garden with narrow paths and tall trees, and an open area with a playground and water features.

Karolinerhuset, the old building standing in the park, was completed in 1715 and served as Växjö's secondary school until the mid-19th century. Carl von Linné was among the students who attended the school there before going on to develop his work in plant science.

The park is named after Carl von Linné, the botanist who studied as a young man at the school once housed in Karolinerhuset. A dedicated planting area shows his classification system through 24 plant groups that visitors can walk through and read about.

The park sits right next to Växjö Cathedral and is easy to reach on foot from the city center. Paths and open areas are accessible for wheelchairs and strollers, making it straightforward for all visitors to move around.

The park includes a cactus garden that takes on a different theme every year, featuring plants from dry and hot regions that are unexpected in a Swedish city park. In spring, the meadow area also draws hawfinches into the hornbeam trees and produces patches of almond blossom and cowslips.
