Plateau de Solaison, Plateau in Brizon, France
The Plateau de Solaison is a broad, open highland area in Haute-Savoie, located in the commune of Brizon. The landscape is made up of gentle meadows with views toward surrounding mountain ranges, including the Bargy massif and the Arve valley.
The plateau was used for centuries by farmers and shepherds who brought their animals up to the high pastures each summer. The land has changed little since then and still bears the marks of that long agricultural use.
The plateau has been used as grazing land by local farmers for generations, and small farm buildings are still scattered across the fields today. In summer, you may spot shepherds with their animals, a reminder of a way of life that has changed little over time.
The plateau is reached by narrow country roads from the surrounding villages, and a small parking area is found about 50 meters to the right after the restaurant La Bruyère. The paths are well marked, making it easy to get your bearings even without local knowledge.
From the far end of the plateau, where the road stops, a trail leads to the Rocher de Leschaux, a rocky summit marked by a cross at the top, reserved for experienced walkers. From up there, you can see the entire plateau, the Borne valley, and the Bargy range all at once.
