The Allées Blatin is a residential area and urban renewal zone in the heart of Clermont-Ferrand, close to the Place de Jaude. The area combines older apartment buildings with newer housing blocks, connected by tree-lined paths and shared outdoor spaces reserved for residents.
The land now occupied by the Allées Blatin was formerly the site of the Sainte-Marie hospital, which shaped this part of the city for many decades. When the hospital buildings were demolished, the area began its transformation into a mixed housing zone, with certain elements like the chapel kept in place.
The Allées Blatin take their name from the adjacent Rue Blatin, which acts as a natural reference point for locals moving through the area. A former chapel from the old hospital site has been kept standing and repurposed, making it one of the few visible links to the neighborhood's earlier function.
The area is within walking distance of central Clermont-Ferrand, and several bus lines serve the neighborhood directly. Visiting during the day makes it easier to get a sense of the layout, as the paths and shared spaces are most naturally navigable in daylight.
From the upper floors of the newer buildings, the outline of the Puy de Dôme is visible in the distance, offering an unexpected view over the city rooftops. This kind of sightline is rare for a residential zone sitting this close to a city center.
