Seven Valleys Trekking, Hiking trail on the Algarve coast, Lagoa, Portugal
The Randonnée dans les sept vallées, also known as the Percurso dos Sete Vales Suspensos, is a coastal hiking trail in the Lagoa municipality of the Algarve, southern Portugal. It runs along the top of limestone cliffs above the Atlantic, passing sea caves, rock arches, and small beaches that can only be reached on foot.
The seven valleys that give the trail its name were carved into the limestone over thousands of years by the action of waves and wind. The route was later marked as an official coastal path as the Algarve coast attracted more visitors and conservation efforts grew.
The trail starts at Praia da Marinha, where parking is available nearby, and is marked with yellow and red trail markers along the full route. Starting early in the morning is a good idea, as the beaches and viewpoints are less crowded and the heat is more manageable.
The famous Benagil cave sits right along the route, but it can only be seen from above on the trail, as the beach below is not accessible from the path itself. To enter the cave, visitors need to take a boat or kayak from the nearby beach.
