Praia de Vale Centianes, Sand beach in Lagoa e Carvoeiro, Portugal
Praia de Vale Centianes is a sand beach located between steep limestone cliffs in Lagoa e Carvoeiro. The central area features fine gullies and natural grooves shaped by water erosion over a long period.
The limestone cliffs have been gradually eroded over thousands of years by ocean waves and rainfall. This continuous geological process has created multiple caves and natural grottoes along the coastline.
The location has long served as a working space for local fishermen, who cast their nets during specific seasons to harvest regional fish species. This traditional practice remains visible to visitors throughout the year.
The beach has a restaurant, restrooms, and an accessibility ramp for all visitors. Lifeguard service is available during the summer season from June through September.
When the tide goes out, visitors can walk into a network of small caves on the western side of the beach. These accessible caves reveal diverse marine life in the shallow intertidal areas.
