Place d'Aurinques, Roundabout and square in Aurillac, France
Place d'Aurinques is a roundabout and square in the center of Aurillac, in the Cantal department of France. Several streets converge here, linking residential and commercial parts of the city.
The square went through several changes over the decades, most recently when an older signalized intersection was replaced by a roundabout. This transformation was intended to improve the flow of traffic and make the crossing safer for everyone.
Place d'Aurinques connects several neighborhoods and is used daily by locals as both a passage and a meeting point. Small shops and cafes nearby keep the square active throughout the day.
The area is a low-speed zone, which makes crossing on foot straightforward, and new curbs and ramps have been added to help people with mobility difficulties. A few short-stay parking spots are available around the roundabout for quick errands.
To avoid disrupting the neighborhood, workers poured the new asphalt at night so the roundabout would be ready before the start of the school year. The lower section of the square is being redesigned in a second phase, with granite paving stones and newly planted trees.
