Wasserturm Rottweil, Water tower in Rottweil, Germany
Wasserturm Rottweil is a round concrete water tower in the southwest of Rottweil, Germany, completed in 1974. It rises to just under 165 feet (50 meters) and is topped by a red and white antenna mast.
The tower was built in the early 1970s to supply water to Rottweil and began operation in 1974. It was taken out of service in 2015 and sold in 2017 to a company called mawa-solutions, which now operates its main office inside the tower at a height of 144 feet (44 meters).
The tower sits in the southwest of Rottweil and can be spotted from many parts of the city, making it easy to use as a reference point when walking around. Since it now serves as a private company office, it is worth checking in advance whether access is available on a given day.
During the annual Rottweiler Ferienzauber festival, participants carefully pack eggs and drop them from the tower platform to see if they land intact, which has become a crowd favorite. The tower's shape reminds many locals of a landed spacecraft, earning it the informal nickname UFO tower among residents.
