Grand High Tops Track, Trail in Warrumbungle National Park, Australia
The Grand High Tops Track is a loop trail in Warrumbungle National Park in New South Wales, Australia, starting from Pincham car park south of John Renshaw Parkway. The route passes through open rocky terrain, forest sections, and creek valleys, climbing toward a high ridge with views over the surrounding land.
The rock formations in Warrumbungle National Park were shaped by volcanic activity millions of years ago, and the land has been used by the Gamilaraay, Wayilwan, and Wiradjuri peoples for thousands of years. The park received national heritage listing in 2006, recognising the importance of both its geology and its Aboriginal history.
The trail is graded for experienced walkers and requires sturdy shoes, plenty of water, and sun protection, as sections are rocky and exposed. Starting early in the day is a good idea, especially in warmer months, since the full loop takes around a full day to complete.
Warrumbungle National Park was the first place in Australia to be officially designated an International Dark Sky Park, meaning the night sky here is among the darkest in the country. Walkers who camp overnight along the trail can experience stargazing conditions that are very rarely found this close to populated areas.
