Biodome, Dome and tourist attraction in Városliget, Budapest, Hungary
The Biodome is a covered attraction inside Városliget, the large park in Budapest's XIV district, and forms part of the Budapest Zoo. The building has large glass surfaces that let in natural light and houses tropical and subtropical plants alongside exotic animals across several levels.
The Biodome was built as part of the Liget Budapest project, which set out to modernize Városliget and its surrounding facilities. It opened in the early 2020s and became part of a broader renewal of the city's zoo.
The Biodome sits inside Városliget and is easy to reach on foot from Heroes' Square. Since the building is not yet fully complete, some sections may still be closed during a visit.
Inside, a waterfall of about 46 feet (14 meters) is planned as one of the building's central features. Among the animals set to live there are the Bali starling, a critically endangered bird, and spurred tortoises, which rank among the largest land tortoises in the world.
