Paseo Charca Maspalomas, Pedestrian walkway in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Spain

Paseo Charca Maspalomas is a pedestrian walkway in the Maspalomas area of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, on the southern tip of Gran Canaria, running along the edge of the dune field next to a coastal lagoon. The path is flat and open, lined with palms and low shrubs on one side, with the dunes visible on the other.

The dunes of Maspalomas have shaped the southern coast of Gran Canaria for centuries, and the lagoon beside the path was long used by local fishermen before tourism arrived. As the area grew into a resort destination in the second half of the 20th century, the need to manage foot traffic and protect the natural zone led to the creation of a dedicated pedestrian corridor.

The walkway sits next to the Charca de Maspalomas, a protected lagoon that serves as a resting stop for migratory birds. Visitors who arrive in the early morning often notice herons and other waterbirds feeding along the water's edge, just steps from the path.

The path is open year-round and is easiest to walk in the early morning or late afternoon, when the sun is lower and the heat less intense. The surface is flat and paved, making it accessible for pushchairs and wheelchairs, though some sections are still being improved.

The name of the walkway refers directly to the charca, a shallow coastal lagoon that sits beside one of the most visited beaches on the island yet remains almost untouched. This lagoon is part of the Maspalomas Dunes Nature Reserve, making it one of the few protected wetlands in the Canary Islands.
