Gyeongpo Beach is a sand beach on the east coast of South Korea, located near the city of Gangneung in Gangwon Province. The shore is backed by pine trees, and the open sea stretches directly in front, giving the beach a wide, open feel.
The area around Gyeongpo Beach was a gathering place for poets and artists for centuries, and its coastal scenery was celebrated in Korean paintings and poems. Over time, what was once a modest fishing area gradually became one of the most visited beaches on the country's east coast.
Gyeongpo Beach is known as a place where couples come to propose or take meaningful photos by the sea. The nearby Gyeongpodae Pavilion draws visitors who walk over from the sand to take in a different view of the coastline.
The beach sits just outside Gangneung city and is easy to reach by train or bus from most parts of Korea. Parking is available on site, but summer weekends draw large crowds, so arriving early in the day makes the visit more comfortable.
