Haegeumgang Islets, Geoje, Scenic islets off the coast of Geoje-si, South Korea

The Haegeumgang Islets are a cluster of small rocky islands off the coast of Geoje-si, in the south of South Korea, within the Hallyeohaesang National Park. They can be reached by ferry from the nearby shore and feature jagged rock formations, a sea cave known as Sipja Cave, and a very old pine tree growing among the rocks.

The islets became part of the Hallyeohaesang National Park when it was established in the 1960s, one of the first marine national parks in South Korea. Before that, the area was known mainly to local fishermen and sailors who passed through these waters regularly.

The islets are reached by ferry from the Geoje coast, and many boat tours combine them with a stop at Oedo-Botania nearby. Going early in the day gives better light and fewer crowds, especially in warmer months when visitor numbers rise.

A pine tree said to be more than a thousand years old grows directly out of the rocks on the islets, surviving wind and salt for generations. The islets are sometimes called Galdo, a name that refers to the way the rocks fan out like the roots of a plant spreading from a single point.
