Sangju Eunmorae Beach, Sand beach on Namhae Island, South Korea
Sangju Eunmorae Beach is a sand beach on Namhae Island, in the south of South Korea. The shore runs for about 2 kilometers, slopes gently into the water, and is backed by rows of pine trees that line the inland edge.
Namhae Island was a fishing community for many generations, with local people living closely tied to the sea. Over time, the island opened up to visitors looking for a quieter alternative to busier coastal destinations.
The beach is about an hour and a half by car from Busan, along winding coastal roads, and parking is generally free on site. Accommodation in the area fills up fast during summer, so planning ahead is a good idea.
Behind the beach, the mountain Geumsan is known for its sunrise views, and some visitors camp on the beach in the evening just to hike up before dawn. The two experiences, a night by the sea and a morning on the peak, sit within easy reach of each other.
