Çamlıhemşin, District in Rize province, Turkey
Çamlıhemşin is a district in the northeastern province of Rize, set among forested mountain slopes and deep valleys close to the Black Sea coast. The district covers several highland summer pastures known as yaylas, along with the foothills of the Kaçkar Mountains.
The district is best explored with a private vehicle, as the mountain roads are winding and public transport options are limited. Comfortable footwear is a good idea, since paths through the highland villages are often steep and uneven.
The Ayder hot springs within the district have been used since Ottoman times and are still visited today for their reputed healing properties. Bathing in these mountain springs gives a sense of just how long people have been drawn to this valley.
