Plage du Touquet is a wide sandy beach in Le Touquet, a coastal town in northern France on the English Channel. At low tide the sea pulls back far, leaving a broad flat expanse of sand bordered by dunes.
Le Touquet was developed in the late 1800s when investors built villas and luxury hotels in the dunes to attract Parisians seeking a seaside holiday. British visitors soon followed and shaped the town's style, which is why the resort earned the nickname Paris-Plage.
Land sailing has been practiced on this beach since the 1920s, and on windy days the wide sand flats fill with small sail-powered carts racing across the wet surface. Watching or trying the sport remains one of the most vivid things a visitor can do here.
Tides change the look of the beach significantly, so checking a tide chart before your visit helps you plan activities on the sand. The beach is easy to reach on foot from the seafront promenade and the town center of Le Touquet.
Every winter the beach hosts the Enduropale, a motorcycle race run directly on the sand that draws large crowds despite the cold weather. This event turns the beach into a meeting point well outside the summer season.
