Liberty National Golf Club is a private waterfront golf course in Jersey City, New Jersey. The grounds are laid out along the Hudson River with close views of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline from many of its 18 holes.
The grounds once belonged to an industrial corridor with oil refineries from the early 1900s and later military storage areas during the Second World War and the Cold War. Converted into a golf course in the early 2000s, the club opened on July 4th, 2006, after about fourteen years of planning and construction.
Members and their invited guests move through the clubhouse and practice areas in a relaxed daytime rhythm, with most activity happening in good weather. The building’s large windows turn the surrounding water and towers into a permanent backdrop for meals and conversations after a round.
The site is straightforward to reach by car or taxi from central Jersey City and nearby highways. Walking paths and the clubhouse area require a fair amount of strolling, so wear comfortable shoes suitable for a long outdoor visit.
Players can arrive by a small ferry that runs directly from Manhattan to the club’s private dock, giving the place a unusual commuting style for a golf course. The site also keeps a helipad on the grounds, a leftover from its high-end private design that many first-time visitors do not expect.
