Echo Park Lake, Reservoir in Los Angeles, US
Echo Lake is a small artificial reservoir inside an urban park in Los Angeles, US. Its water sits within a shallow basin lined with stones, while a paved walkway circles the shore under tall willows and palms.
Built in 1868 as Reservoir No. 4, the lake once held drinking water brought from the Los Angeles River through a long ditch. By the 1890s it was turned into a park, and the reservoir became a lake for boating and strolling.
A sculpture called Our Queen of the Angels stands near the water, where people often stop to take photos. The open lawns and benches draw neighbors who sit, talk, and watch ducks move across the surface.
Walking the path around the water is easy for most visitors, with flat ground and wide sections for passing. Morning and late afternoon are good times to go, when the sun is softer and the walkway feels less crowded.
The name Echo Park came from a park worker who shouted across the ravine and heard his voice bounce back. Today the lake still holds a small island made of dirt from the original landscaping work.
