Sion Castle, Gothic castle ruin in Chlístovice, Czech Republic.
Sion Castle is a Gothic ruin on a hilltop near Chlístovice stream in Central Bohemia. Stone walls, arches, and staircases remain from the original structure, giving visitors a sense of the medieval fortress that once stood here.
The castle was founded between 1426 and 1427 by Jan Roháč of Dubá as a stronghold during religious conflicts. It was destroyed in 1437 after a four-month siege by Emperor Sigismund's forces.
Local stories connect this ruin to a time of intense religious conflict that shaped the region. The site is remembered as a place where historical struggles remain visible in the landscape.
The site is accessible from Kutná Hora and can be reached on foot, so wear sturdy shoes and allow time for the climb to the hilltop. Since the castle sits away from main roads, it helps to plan your route beforehand for the best access path.
A commemorative plaque with a relief of Jan Roháč of Dubá lies in a valley below the ruins. This monument preserves the memory of the bold leader whose fortress stood against imperial siege.
