Malešov Castle

Malešov sits on a rock formation above the Vrchlice River and blends sturdy medieval stone walls with a neoclassical façade added later. The grounds spread across multiple levels with various buildings, some restored and others still bearing their age.

The castle was built in the mid-14th century and served as a defensive stronghold for the region. In 1424, an important battle took place between Hussite forces and Prague troops, which underscored its military importance at the time.

The castle served as a regional power center for centuries, and its walls reflect the different periods of occupation and use. Walking through the complex today, you can see how the style shifted from a military stronghold to a more refined neoclassical building.

Access to the grounds is available through the campsite, where visitors can get information about guided tours and accommodation. It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes since the terrain has multiple levels and some steep stairs.

The fortress had an unexpected second life as a grain storage facility in the 17th century before moving into modern times. Today a brewery operates within the historic walls, blending the medieval past with contemporary use.
