Jilemnice, organization
Jilemnice is a small town in the Czech Republic with a long history and traditional buildings throughout its streets. It has a castle from the 18th century that now houses a museum about the Krkonoše Mountains, a central alley with old houses called Zvědavá ulička, and several churches including the Church of Saint Lawrence.
The town was rebuilt with wooden houses after a major fire in 1788, which are still visible in the historic alley Zvědavá ulička. The Harrach family castle played an important role in local history and continues to define the town's appearance today.
The town is deeply connected to skiing history, as one of the first ski clubs was founded here. This link to winter sports tradition shapes how residents live and how the place is remembered today.
The town sits in the mountains and serves as a good starting point for hiking, skiing, and cycling in the surrounding region. A local information center on the main square offers maps and advice for visitors, and there are accommodation and dining options located near the center.
The town's clock tower has a special repeating clock that chimes every 15 minutes and sounds over 1000 times each day, which is unusual in Europe. Different bell sounds mark quarter hours, half hours, and full hours throughout the day.
