Clam-Gallas Palace, Baroque palace in Old Town, Czech Republic
Clam-Gallas Palace is a Baroque building in the Old Town with four wings surrounding a central square courtyard. Two grand entrances decorated with sculptures open into interior spaces adorned with frescoes and ornamental details throughout.
The building was constructed between 1713 and 1718 for a count and incorporated several pre-existing structures on the site. Its design reflects the architectural trends of the period, blending earlier elements into a coherent residence.
The palace takes its name from two noble families whose histories intertwined within these walls over the centuries. Today, visitors can see how the ornate rooms and decorations reflect the lifestyle and values of the aristocracy.
Visitors can explore the main floor rooms and should expect to climb around 76 steps to reach them. Comfortable shoes are recommended, and it is best to check the opening hours before planning your visit.
Following extensive restoration work between 2017 and 2022, the building received multiple awards for its renovation. This careful restoration brought back many original features and reopened the palace to the public.
