Svatý Kopeček, Pilgrimage complex and basilica in Olomouc, Czech Republic.
Svatý Kopeček is a pilgrimage complex featuring a basilica that stands on elevated ground near Olomouc, distinguished by Baroque architecture with two prominent towers and white exterior walls. The building was constructed between 1669 and 1679 and has shaped the visual landscape of the region ever since.
The site began as a small chapel built in 1632, which later evolved into the grand church that stands today. Architect G.P. Tencallo shaped its present form through his design.
The basilica serves as a pilgrimage destination where visitors from surrounding regions gather to share moments of prayer and reflection. The church welcomes people daily who come to participate in worship services, concerts, and religious celebrations.
The site is easily accessible by public transportation from central Olomouc, with regular bus services connecting to it. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended, as reaching the church involves climbing up the hillside to the complex.
The church breaks from the traditional east-west alignment and instead faces directly toward the nearby Hradisko convent. This unconventional orientation creates an intentional architectural connection between the two religious structures in the landscape.
