Teplice Castle, Baroque castle with regional museum in Teplice, Czech Republic
Teplice Castle is a Baroque château in the center of Teplice, a town in northern Bohemia in the Czech Republic. The building consists of several wings arranged around wide inner courtyards, with an ornate facade and towers that are visible from the surrounding streets.
A convent was established on this site in the 13th century, and the complex grew in importance over the following centuries. A major rebuilding in the 18th century gave the structure its current Baroque appearance.
The castle now houses the Teplice Regional Museum, which displays collections on town history, local crafts, and art from the surrounding area. One section focuses on glassmaking and ceramics, two crafts closely tied to this part of Bohemia.
The castle is easy to reach on foot from the town center, and the entrance is clearly visible from the main street. Plan enough time to visit both the indoor exhibition rooms and the open courtyards.
Although Teplice is known for its thermal springs, the castle itself was never used as a spa facility and developed separately from the bathing establishments in town. This separation is still visible today in how the two parts of the town center are laid out.
