Orthodox church of Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Teplice

This Orthodox church sits within Teplice Castle grounds and blends Gothic architectural features with Renaissance details. The chapel contains multiple interconnected spaces, with its outer walls decorated with elaborate sgraffiti ornaments.

The original chapel was built between 1549 and 1568 by Volf of Vřesovice, with an additional chapel added during the seventeenth century. In 1950, the building was repurposed for Orthodox worship and received its current name.

The church serves the Orthodox Christian community, who gather here to maintain their religious traditions and spiritual practices. Inside, you can see elements that reflect Eastern Christian customs and the connection between this place and its role in local religious life.

Access to the interior is usually limited to service times, so it is best to check visiting hours beforehand. The location sits within the castle grounds and is easy to reach from the main square.

Beneath the church lies a crypt holding the remains of Volf of Vřesovice, its original founder. The sgraffiti decorations on the outer walls match those at other historic sites nearby, showing a shared artistic approach from that period.
