Lackenberg

Lackenberg is a mountain summit in the Šumava range located at the border between Czech Republic and Germany. Dense forest surrounds the peak, and from the top you can see far across the landscape toward both countries.

The summit has served as a natural border marker between Czech and German lands for hundreds of years. This position shaped how the place developed through different historical periods.

Local mountaineering groups maintain seasonal hiking events to the summit, continuing traditions established by Czech and German climbing societies.

Marked trails approach the summit from both the Czech and German sides with parking available near Železna Ruda. You should choose your gear and timing based on the season and weather conditions you expect to find on the mountain.

The elevation supports rare mountain plants that tolerate harsh Alpine conditions typical of much higher peaks elsewhere. Visitors can observe this hardy vegetation while walking paths where such plant life is normally found only at greater heights.
