Karlovy Vary International Airport, airport serving the city of Karlovy Vary, located in Olšová Vrata
Karlovy Vary International Airport is a public airport located in the village of Olšová Vrata, about 4.5 kilometers (3 miles) from the town center. The facility has one main runway 2150 meters long equipped with systems for night flights and poor weather operations, plus a smaller grass area for smaller aircraft.
The airport opened in 1931 with its first regular airline service to Prague and Marianske Lazne. After World War II, it was rebuilt, and a new concrete runway was constructed in the 1960s to enable international flights.
A bus service connects the town center regularly to the airport, and there is plenty of parking nearby. Getting there is straightforward via main roads and the facility is clearly marked.
The airport offers scenic flights in small aircraft over the region's landscape, giving visitors an unusual view of the surrounding nature. Balloon flights are also available for those wanting a calmer flying experience.
