Smrk

Tafelfichte is the highest summit in the Czech section of the Jizera Mountains, rising to 1,124 meters above the surrounding landscape. A modern steel observation tower stands at its peak, offering views across the mountain terrain and the neighboring countries beyond.

The mountain gained notice in the 17th century when a significant figure left a mark of his passage near its border. A wooden observation structure was built in the late 1800s, which eventually gave way to the steel tower that stands today.

The summit served as a boundary marker between different territories for centuries, and today it remains a place where visitors from multiple countries naturally converge. The simple refreshment point reflects how mountain peaks have long functioned as meeting places in this region.

The summit is accessible via marked trails that climb from different sides of the mountain range. Sturdy footwear is advisable, and visitors should be prepared for rapid weather changes common to high mountain elevations.

A replica of the original monument from this peak was installed at a surprising location, where it reaches many more visitors than expected. This unusual connection between a remote mountain and a busy destination shows how this place's story has spread far beyond its slopes.
