Velká Deštná, Mountain summit in Hradec Králové Region, Czech Republic.
Deschneyer Großkoppe, known in Czech as Velká Deštná, is the highest summit of the Orlické Mountains at 1,116 m, with a broad dome and steep slopes. A 19-metre steel observation tower with a pentagonal plan and larch cladding, symbolising rain in the wind, was opened on 26 October 2019. The summit is partly covered by young forest.
Czechoslovak fortifications were built on the eastern slopes in the 1930s to protect the border region. These structures were part of military preparations before World War II.
The mountain was formerly called Siedmiogrodzka Góra (Seven Towns Mountain). The larch-clad 2019 tower is meant to evoke rain driven by wind, and the summit is reached by the red-marked Jiráskova cesta, the main ridge trail of the Orlické Mountains.
The easiest approach follows the red-marked Jiráskova cesta from the saddle below Šerlich, where there is a car park and a bus stop; a green-marked route climbs from the Luisino údolí settlement. The summit ridge path also carries cycle route 4071. A mountain service hut with shelter and refreshments stands just below the top.
The summit lies within a nature reserve containing rare ridge bogs and plant species found in few other places across Europe. This protected zone makes it a special spot for those interested in natural ecosystems.
