Masarykova chata, Mountain hut and cultural monument in Šerlich, Czech Republic
Masarykova chata is a mountain hut situated on the Šerlich ridge at approximately 1000 meters elevation in the Orlické Mountains. The building contains multiple sleeping rooms of different sizes and offers views across the Czech and Polish landscape.
The building was constructed in 1924-1925 according to designs by architect Bohuslav Fuchs and was initiated by the Club of Czech Tourists from Hradec Králové. During Nazi occupation, the hut received a different name but later returned to its original designation after the war.
The hut honors Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, the first president of Czechoslovakia, and serves as a symbol of Czech national pride in the mountain landscape. The name reflects the country's identity and its connection to the region's local community.
The hut is accessible for multi-day hiking trips in the region and accommodates groups of various sizes. The surrounding landscape offers hiking trails with different difficulty levels.
The nearby Bukačka nature reserve shelters rare plant species of the mountain region and functions like an open botanical museum. Visitors can experience the regional flora while hiking between the hut and the natural landscape around them.
