Reichenberg Zoological Gardens

Reichenberg Zoological Gardens is a zoo in Liberec covering about 13 hectares and home to around 170 animal species from every continent. The grounds are divided into different sections, including African Savanna exhibits, tropical rainforest environments, and enclosures for rarer species such as snow leopards and forest reindeer.

The zoo was founded in 1919 and gained worldwide recognition in the 1940s as the first facility to successfully breed polar bears in captivity. This achievement helped establish the institution as a leading center for animal conservation and breeding programs.

The zoo bears the name of its host city and serves as a meeting place where visitors from different backgrounds observe wildlife together. Walking through the grounds, you encounter both local families and international guests pausing at enclosures to watch zebras, giraffes, and primates.

The zoo opens daily and offers parking facilities as well as tram connections for visitors. The pathways are clearly marked with enclosures spread across the grounds, so it is advisable to wear sturdy footwear and plan clothing according to the season.

The zoo is also home to rare white tigers, which can be seen at only a handful of places worldwide. This uncommon feature makes it a special destination for visitors who want to observe these extraordinary big cats up close.
