Moravian Gallery in Brno, Art museum and research center in Brno, Czech Republic.
The Moravian Gallery is an art museum and research center in Brno that spans five different buildings, including the Pražák Palace, Governor's Palace, Museum of Applied Arts, Jurkovič House, and Josef Hoffmann Museum. Together these locations create a space where painting, drawing, graphic art, sculpture, photography, and design from various periods and cultures are displayed.
The museum was created in 1961 through the merger of the Museum of Applied Arts and the Picture Gallery of the Moravian Museum. This combination made it the second largest art institution in the country.
The gallery's name reflects its ties to the Moravian region where Brno is located, grounding it in local artistic heritage. Today you can experience how the collections tell the story of European art through works that span centuries and styles.
Some exhibition areas offer free admission, and the museum has specialized collections for visually impaired visitors. It helps to check ahead which of the five buildings are open on the day you plan to visit.
Since 1963 the institution has organized the International Biennial of Graphic Design Brno, showcasing achievements in visual communication from around the world. This event has made the museum a key venue for contemporary design culture.
