Kampa Island, River island in Malá Strana, Czech Republic.
Kampa Island sits between the Vltava River and Devil's Stream, connecting Malá Strana to the Old Town side. The island features open green spaces, historic buildings, and walkways along the water's edge.
The island got its name from Spanish soldiers who camped here during the Battle of White Mountain in the 17th century. The Devil's Stream was later dug by the Knights Hospitaller to separate the island from the mainland.
Museum Kampa, located in a former mill building, showcases artworks by František Kupka and other Central European artists. The collection reflects the artistic traditions that have shaped this region.
The island is easily reached on foot by crossing Charles Bridge or using the nearby tram. The area is open year-round and perfect for walking and taking a break.
The artificial water channel was created by the Knights Hospitaller back in the 12th century and remains one of Prague's oldest engineering works. This narrow stream has protected the island from flooding for centuries.
