Villa Kramář, Official residence in Hradčany district, Prague, Czech Republic
Villa Kramář is a baroque revival building in the Hradčany district of Prague that now serves as a residence. The estate spreads across several levels with reception halls, private chambers and outbuildings, while the surrounding gardens follow a French design model.
The estate was built in 1914 for Karel Kramář, who later played a major political role in the new republic. Since the late 1990s, the building has served as the official residence for the head of government.
The decoration blends influences from different regions, shaped by Nadezhda Kramářová's Russian roots and her husband's Bohemian identity. Handcrafted textiles and ceramics from local workshops complement the decorative elements that visitors can admire during official events.
The location on the hillside offers a direct view toward the castle and the city, while access follows a side street. Since the estate remains in use for state purposes, visits are possible only during special occasions or by prior arrangement.
The facade was kept deliberately low so as not to block the panorama of the castle. Mosaics in Byzantine style decorate some of the reception rooms and recall the artistic preferences of the first occupants.
