Braník Bridge, Railway and pedestrian bridge in Braník district, Prague, Czech Republic
Braník Bridge is a concrete structure serving both railway and pedestrian traffic, crossing the Vltava River and connecting the southern districts of Braník and Malá Chuchle. The bridge spans 950 meters at a height of 19 meters above the water.
Construction started in the 1950s under communist rule and shaped Prague's urban development after World War II. The project required significant labor participation from residents of the city during that period.
Local residents refer to the structure as the Bridge of Intelligence, reflecting the period when professors, lawyers, and other professionals worked on its construction.
The bridge carries trains daily between two southern railway stations, while pedestrians and cyclists use a dedicated path alongside the tracks. It is best to cross during daylight hours as lighting is limited in some sections.
The structure was built with fifteen spans, where the longest section spans just over 53 meters, showcasing advanced post-war engineering methods. This design allowed the bridge to cross the wide river while using fewer support piers.
