Rožnov

Rožnov is a castle ruin perched on Hradisko hill, rising above the Bečva valley and overlooking the surrounding hills. The remaining stonework displays foundation walls, fragments, and fortification elements that made up the original medieval structure.

Construction of the fortress began in 1310 and it functioned as a defensive stronghold for over two centuries. Decline set in after 1538 when the site was abandoned and its structure gradually deteriorated.

The ruins display medieval building techniques that visitors can still observe in the remaining stone structures. This place gives a sense of how people in the 14th century constructed fortifications to protect their region.

Marked hiking trails from the Wallachian Open Air Museum lead directly to the ruin on Hradisko, making access straightforward. Information panels at the site explain the layout, and the location offers excellent views across the surrounding valley.

The castle was positioned so strategically that it could control trade routes linking different regions of Central Europe. This commanding location explains why the site was once so valuable and why many sought to occupy it.
