Church of All Saints, church in Vsetín District of Zlín region

The Church of All Saints is a stone building from the mid-1700s that replaced an earlier wooden structure. The church has a simple shape with a prominent tower, solid brick walls covered in plaster, and a layout that includes a large central altar decorated with religious paintings.

The Church of All Saints replaced a 16th-century wooden church and was built between 1745 and 1750; unrest delayed final completion, interiors included, until 1752. Repairs followed: the cupola was replaced in 1805, the metal roof gave way to shingles in 1876, and after World War II the roofing and bells were requisitioned for war purposes.

The church is dedicated to All Saints, and its main altar painting of that theme is by the Flemish painter Antonis Schoonjans. Gustav Boček of Šternberk painted the interior, which has five altars. On the pilaster of the triumphal arch, opposite the baroque pulpit, stands a gilded, larger-than-life statue of St. Wenceslas.

The church stands west of Masaryk Square, its tower and sanctus bell turret facing the main northern facade. The single nave is entered from that side, and the interior holds five altars, so allow time to walk the full length. The gilded statue of St Wenceslas is on the right pilaster of the triumphal arch, opposite the baroque pulpit.

On 20 November 1923, pilot and local native Karel Tkadlec died when his plane crashed on the ground of the former cemetery beside today's church. The engine failed on a flight from Olomouc, causing a steep dive. Period photographs identify the impact spot with today's Kostnice (ossuary).
