Borówkowa, Mountain summit at Czech-Polish border, Czech Republic
Heidelkoppe is a mountain summit at the Czech-Polish border that rises to around 900 meters in elevation. An observation tower of roughly 25 meters stands on the peak, offering views across the Bardo, Owl, and Jeseniky mountain ranges.
The summit received its first observation tower in 1882, followed by replacements built in 1900 and 1922 as the original structures aged. Between 1929 and World War II, a mountain hut called Schutzhaus Heidelkoppe provided shelter and hospitality to visitors on the peak.
The summit served as a meeting point where Czech and Polish activists gathered during the 1980s to support the Solidarity movement. These gatherings showed how this location brought people together across borders.
The summit is accessible via marked hiking trails starting from several points in the region on both the Czech and Polish sides. Weather conditions at this elevation can change quickly, so visitors should bring appropriate gear regardless of forecast conditions.
The border arrangement here follows an unusual pattern where Polish territory extends to the southern slope, contrary to typical geographical divisions. This distinctive configuration makes the summit geographically intriguing from a border perspective.
