Vršovice Savings Bank Building, Art Nouveau bank building in Vršovice district, Prague, Czech Republic

The Vršovice Savings Bank Building is a four-story structure with elaborate Art Nouveau detailing across its exterior and carefully crafted interior spaces. The building continues to function as a bank branch today while maintaining all its original decorative elements and design features.

Architect Antonín Balšánek designed the building in 1912 during a period of economic growth in early twentieth-century Prague. The construction took place when the Vršovice district was developing into a new urban center beyond the city core.

The entrance statues were created by sculptor Ladislav Šaloun, while painters Josef Mařatka and František Uprka decorated the interior with their work. These artistic additions show how much care went into making a bank feel like an important civic building.

The building is located in the Vršovice neighborhood and remains accessible during business hours as it operates as a functioning bank branch. Visitors can explore the interior during European Heritage Days in September to see the decorative details and artistic work up close.

The building holds the status of a Czech cultural monument, recognizing how important such financial institutions were to urban development beyond the historic center. This designation highlights how it represents the architectural and artistic standards of its time.
