Šemnická skála, Natural monument in Šemnice, Czech Republic
Šemnická skála is a protected natural monument featuring a large rock wall on its eastern side. The rocks consist of volcanic phonolitic lava and granite, creating a distinctive geological formation that stands out in the landscape.
The site received protected status in 1933 and is located at the northeastern edge of Slavkovský les. This designation helped preserve the geological and natural features of the area.
The rock formation was known by different names over the centuries, reflecting the changing history of the region. These names show how the place remained present in local memory and storytelling.
Marked hiking trails approach the site from several directions, including a yellow path from Andělská Hora and a red route from Dubina. Visit during dry weather since the rocks can become slippery when wet.
The area hosts rare heat-loving plant communities and serves as a nesting site for Eurasian Eagle-Owls. The combination of rock face, forest, and specialized vegetation creates a place of genuine ecological interest.
