Biskupská rezidence v Hradci Králové

Biskupská rezidence is a baroque residence featuring four wings that frame a rectangular central courtyard with a seven-section facade. The symmetrical design creates a formal composition oriented toward the main square of the city.

Construction started in 1715 under Bishop Jan Adam Vratislav of Mitrovice, designed by architect Jan Blazej Santini-Aichel, and finished in 1719. The building was completed during a period when the city was establishing itself as an important regional center.

The small chapel in the southeastern corner displays architectural details typical of Baroque design from this period. Visitors walking through notice how these decorative elements shape the character of the building.

The building currently serves as the administrative headquarters of the Diocese and is not open to tourists for interior visits. The best view is from outside, where you can see the facade and courtyard layout from the main square.

An arcade on the eastern side connects through a staircase to the private garden, framed by two double-story projections and a triangular pediment. This hidden area reveals how the bishop's personal space was separated from the public courtyard.
