Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius on Radhošť, Religious chapel on Radhošť mountain, Czech Republic
The Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius on Radhošť is a stone building with a Byzantine-style dome and wooden shingle roof standing at the summit of Radhošť mountain at 1129 meters high. The structure has a simple yet dignified form with an entrance area and a marble altar inside.
Construction of the chapel began in 1896 following architect Skibinski's design and replaced an earlier stone cross that marked the Christian conversion from pagan worship. The building was erected at this sacred location that had long held meaning for the local community.
The interior displays local Walachian traditions through stained glass windows showing saints and a painting of the Walachian Madonna wearing traditional clothing. These artworks reflect the cultural identity of people who have lived in this mountain region for generations.
The chapel can be reached through a four-kilometer trail from Pustevny or by using the chairlift from the station in Trojanovice, where parking is available. The route through the mountains allows visitors to enjoy the landscape and adjust their pace to their own needs.
The building houses a marble altar recognized as the highest church structure in the Czech Republic. Above the entrance is carved the inscription 'Love, Slavs', a message that greets visitors as they enter.
