Zvolská homole, Nature reserve near Zvole, Czech Republic
Zvolská homole is a nature reserve near Zvole featuring deciduous forests, rocky steppes and heathlands that rise above the Vltava River to an elevation of 327 meters. The protected area spans roughly 50 hectares and combines different landscape types within a compact hilltop setting.
The area received official protection status as a nature reserve in 1998 and was placed under state management. The medieval fortification on the hilltop shows that this place had strategic importance long before modern conservation efforts.
The rocky hilltop shows traces of medieval fortification that reveal how people once used this place for protection. Walking around the site, you can see marks left by humans in the rock formation.
The site is accessible by train to Dolní Břežany-Jarov station, from which a marked hiking trail leads to the viewpoint. The paths can be uneven and muddy depending on weather, so sturdy footwear is helpful.
A railway tunnel runs 390 meters beneath the hilltop and connects Prague with Čerčany and Dobříš. This hidden passage is part of the site's story, even though visitors cannot see it from above.
