Tok, Mountain summit in Central Bohemia, Czech Republic
Tok is the highest summit in the Brdy Mountains of Central Bohemia, Czech Republic, reaching about 865 meters above sea level. The top is covered by dense conifer forest and sits within a protected nature area that surrounds the whole massif.
During the Cold War, the Czechoslovak military used the summit as a radar and observation post to monitor airspace over Central Europe. After the army withdrew, the broader area was gradually turned into a protected nature park.
Tok sits at the heart of a former military training area that only opened to the public in 2015, making it a relatively new destination for hikers. Visitors today walk paths that were off-limits for decades, which gives the place a particular feeling of rediscovery.
Marked trails reach the summit from several trailheads, including one near the village of Obecnice, and the paths are well signed through the forest. The top itself offers little open view because of the tree cover, so most of the enjoyment comes from the walk rather than the panorama.
The concrete bases and fragments of the Cold War radar installations are still visible near the top and are now listed as a technical monument. They are among the few surviving examples of military air defense infrastructure from that era in the country.
