Bedřiška, Emergency residential colony in Hulváky, Czech Republic.
Bedřiška is an emergency residential colony with Finnish wooden houses and brick buildings situated in the southern part of Hulváky district near industrial zones. The structures show simple materials and functional design from different building periods.
The settlement was built after World War II to house miners working in local coal mines. In the 1990s it became a destination for residents facing rental payment difficulties.
The settlement reflects a mixed population that has grown together over the decades. Today residents use shared spaces for neighborhood meetings and local activities.
The settlement is reached via Kordova street adjacent to Plzeňska street with limited access to main transportation routes. Visitors should expect simple pathways between buildings and be aware of proximity to industrial areas.
Since 2018 residents have launched preservation efforts through cleaning campaigns and community events against demolition plans. This grassroots movement shows the community's resistance to the planned demolition.
