Jilmová skála, Natural monument in Horní Vltavice, Czech Republic.
Jilmová skála is a protected natural monument in the Bohemian Forest featuring distinctive rock formations surrounded by thick woodland. The site rises to about 1000 meters elevation and encompasses several hectares of diverse forest terrain.
The area received official protection status from the Czech Environment Ministry in 1985, establishing it as a safeguarded natural site. This designation preserved the geological formations and forest ecosystems from future development.
The area serves as an educational destination through a forest nature trail extending 13.2 kilometers, teaching visitors about local ecosystems.
A walking trail passes through the area offering visitors insight into local plant and animal life. A train line connects the Vimperk and Volary regions and runs along the southern and eastern edges of the site.
The rock formations consist of ancient stone shaped by frost and ice over thousands of years. This weathering has created unusual forms and textures rarely seen elsewhere in the region.
