Soumarský most, Historical bridge in Volary, Czech Republic

Soumarský most is a concrete road bridge over the Teplá Vltava, about 5 km west of Volary in South Bohemia. The current structure dates from 1998, replacing an earlier concrete bridge from 1937 that was blown up in 1945. It stands on road III/14141 between Volary and České Žleby, near the Soumarské rašeliniště peat bog and the Volarské šance earthworks.

This crossing point has existed since medieval times and played an important role in connecting trade routes along the Vltava. Over the years, the bridge was rebuilt and adapted multiple times to meet growing transportation needs.

The bridge serves as a natural meeting point for people who spend time in this area, especially for paddlers who start or finish their river journeys here. You can see people regularly preparing their boats or returning from the water.

The crossing is accessible year-round and works especially well as an orientation point for kayaking or hiking trips along the river. The adjacent camping facilities offer parking and rest stops for visitors before they continue their journey.

The name Säumerbrücke refers to the pack-horse drivers (Säumer) of the Golden Trail; the bridge stands on road III/14141 about 5 km west of Volary, and a train stop on the Strakonice–Volary line sits by the settlement. Remains of the original bridge have never been found in the area.
