Palais Dietrichstein is a palace on the upper side of Zelný trh in Brno, just below the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, and serves as the main exhibition building of the Moravian Museum. Cardinal Franz von Dietrichstein had it built in 1614–1618 on the site of five houses; after Domenico Martinelli's high-Baroque remodelling, only the main walls and some vaults of the early-Baroque structure survived, while the entrance portal and vestibule remain intact.
A cardinal commissioned this building in the early 1600s with an Italian architect overseeing the construction. The structure underwent several renovations over the following centuries and served different purposes as political circumstances changed.
The palace houses the Moravian Museum, where visitors encounter regional artworks and historical objects spanning many periods. The rooms show how local traditions and heritage have been preserved through the centuries.
The building sits centrally at the vegetable market and is easy to reach on foot. Visitors should check opening times ahead of time, as the palace does not operate daily.
A memorial plaque on the palace records that Russian commander Mikhail Kutuzov stayed here in October 1805 before the Battle of Austerlitz. The building has been protected as a cultural monument since 1958.
